Saint John’s School

Saint John’s School, also known as St. Johns-in-the-Mountains, was a two-story schoolhouse for white students in the Endicott region of Franklin County. Ora Harrison and Margaret Pringle were teachers at the school. You can learn more about the history of St. John’s in Charles D. Thompson’s book, Sister Ora, Brother Goode (Virginia Humanities, 2004), as well as his later book, Spirits of Just Men (University of Illinois Press, 2011). Special Collections at Virginia Tech also has many resources related to St. John’s, which you can access at this hyperlink.
