Hale’s Ford School

Hale’s Ford School, also known as Duncan School, was a one-room schoolhouse for white students near the Westlake area of Franklin County. Constructed in 1881, it was built on a stone foundation, and it was heated with a stove. It did not have electricity, running water, or indoor bathrooms. In the 1980s, more than a century later, the school was moved from its location near the Willard Office Plaza to the campus of Dudley Elementary School, four miles away. Angie Overstreet, Annie Turner, and Mae Maxey were teachers at the school.
