Arthur’s Knob School

Arthur’s Knob School was a one-room schoolhouse for white students located in the Blackwater district of Franklin County. The original schoolhouse was a one-room log cabin. When that school burned down, it was replaced with a one-room schoolhouse made from cinderblocks. When insurance agents tried to visit Arthur’s Knob in 1937, they were unable to inspect the school because it was deemed “inaccessible.” Billy Hodges, John R. Webster, Hershel Fike, and Wilson Slaten were among the teachers.
